My neighbor, the master gardener, left me some perennials the other day. The lilies joined . . . tada! a poppy. There's a story behind that poppy. I had planted a seed mix last fall. It was supposed to come up in the spring. Well, spring came, and we thought they were weeds, so Freddy the lawn man mowed them down. I proceeded to plant glads in a large part of the bed, but left one of the "weeds" up. Freddy mowed it down twice more before I got the fence up. Allowed to grow, it showed its true colors. It was a poppy!!!!
I have an aunt called Poppy. Her real name is Doris but because her b'day is 11/11 (Remembrance Day when everyone wears a poppy) she's always been Poppy.
ReplyDeletere: biting cat - I always found that wearing armour worked. A sharp rap on the nose works in the short term.
ReplyDeleteoh that is such a cool story!!
ReplyDeleteAnd there is a Shirley poppy, I believe!
If you don't mow it down this year, maybe you'll have lots more poppies next year.
ReplyDeletedo you think so, Cas? That would be so cool!
ReplyDeleteI've got it fenced now.
