Geocaching

For years I have been interested in geocaching but did nothing about it. I enjoyed Elaine from Houston's posts on her adventures with her husband Kenny finding caches. Something piqued my interest recently. (I wish I could remember what specifically did, but oh well.) I downloaded the app for Droids to my smart phone. (I REALLY love my Droid). I went to the geocaching.com site, and tried to sign up. I found out I had already joined as a basic member five years ago so I got settled in.

The App brings everything together. You can search for close caches. Navigation takes you close, and then the compass takes you in. I am utterly AMAZED at the # of caches there are in any given area. Too funny.

Cemetaries are a favorite place to hide caches. The cemetary that we visit at least twice a year has a cache. Did not know that. I have visited spots I didn't know exist, even though I frequently drive by them.

Of course, I didn't REALLY need another hobby. But hey. Gotta keep this old mind young, eh?

Coming up on a Benchmark

It was over 20 years ago that I started my 401(k). I remember it well. That was four owners ago. The business is still there, I'm still there, but we have had four sets of owners since that initial 401(k) start. We're a small company, non-union, and the terms changed with the second owner. *sigh* But it has hung in, I've hung in, and I'm approaching the 59 1/2 mark, where you can take withdrawals with no penalties. It surprises me to be this old so soon. *sigh*

Heat Wave

We didn't have a January thaw this year, but we surely had a February one. We hit 55 degrees F two days in a row. Living on the farm you can see upclose the joys of a thaw . . . the fields lose their water and it comes rolling through to the drainage ditches. Unfortunately, one of the tiles in the field is broken, so I get a lot of water. Fortunately, the tiles in the yard were routed a oouple of years ago and the lake has subsided.
