Well, and of course I did become a crazy cat lady this year.

Burnout Means look for Change

As I've been looking  at different articles about burnout, I realize that it sure is a common issue.   Most burnout is job-related (check).  I have worked at the business I work at for 35 years come August.  In that time we have had five different owners/owner teams.  There has been change at each of these changes of teams, and I have always been able to adapt (one of my strong skills).  However, the last change that occurred  on April 1, 2012 (too funny, eh?) has been the killer.  Our owner, who is approaching retirement age (he is three years older than me) brought in a new second in command.  This young man is 28, graduated in Hospitality, and was chosen by the boss because he is a good friend from church.  The kid is arrogant as all get out, knows everything, has no innate curiosity, and takes credit for all good things that happen (including the weather).  Ostensibly he is sales and marketing manager, but in truth he is the little dictator.  Argh.

Okay, that is enough fussing for now.  I am on vacation.  Most articles on burnout suggest changing jobs.  Retirement age is coming up, and while I had always assumed I would go to 65, the times, they are a changing.

Burn Out

Sorry I haven't been around for awhile.  I've been trying to cope for the last year with Burn Out. I guess I didn't do a very good job.  HOWEVER, I have a week's vacation here in the heart of Michigan, in the prettiest most hopeful month of May, and life will get better.  Will you join me on my journey?

Recovering from burnout: Acknowledge your losses
Burnout brings with it many losses, which can often go unrecognized. Unrecognized losses trap a lot of your energy. It takes a tremendous amount of emotional control to keep yourself from feeling the pain of these losses. Learning Curve

2012 - The Year of the Cat

What a year.  I never could have predicted this one.  A terrible betrayal at work almost killed me emotionally.  As the saying goes, though, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and I'm heading into that zone as I head into the new Year.

And then, there were the cats.  I have two inside cats, for company and for mice control.  I never wanted to be one of those "cat ladies".  (CatWoman would be okay, but that isn't a likelihood.)  But when a momma cat leaves her kittens on your doorstep (or in my case, in the corncrib) all rational thought goes out the window.  I was also a little dumb on cat physiology.  I had made an appointment with the vet for spaying, but it was a little late, and a second litter was born before the appointment.  Fortunately for me, she has small litters, so the batch of two was followed by three. 

Expecting good things from 2013.  I'll turn 61, which is a prime number.  I expect a prime year for me, and for you!

Busy February

It's been a most unusual February, with a family wedding the first weekend of February and a send-off to the military for nephew three the second weekend. I love family gatherings, but it is good to catch my breath this weekend. (And work at editing photos!) The family wedding was niece #4. She and Darius are still in college, so they worked hard to keep expenses down. I was honored that they had me take some of the wedding pictures.

I made it! This has been the least worrisome birthday since, oh, I don't know, turning thirteen. I actually feel like I have arrived. I've paid my dues (and my taxes), I've stayed the course, and now ... I'm one of the big kids!

2011 - What Kind of a Year Was it?

As we say good-bye to 2011, what kind of a year was it for you?

For me, it was what I consider a transition or prep year. A lot of ugly baggage was dropped, a lot of new ideas were adopted and put in to play. I believe 2011 was a wonderful stepping stone to a terrific 2012.

Geocaching

For years I have been interested in geocaching but did nothing about it. I enjoyed Elaine from Houston's posts on her adventures with her husband Kenny finding caches. Something piqued my interest recently. (I wish I could remember what specifically did, but oh well.) I downloaded the app for Droids to my smart phone. (I REALLY love my Droid). I went to the geocaching.com site, and tried to sign up. I found out I had already joined as a basic member five years ago so I got settled in.

The App brings everything together. You can search for close caches. Navigation takes you close, and then the compass takes you in. I am utterly AMAZED at the # of caches there are in any given area. Too funny.


Cemetaries are a favorite place to hide caches. The cemetary that we visit at least twice a year has a cache. Did not know that. I have visited spots I didn't know exist, even though I frequently drive by them.

Of course, I didn't REALLY need another hobby. But hey. Gotta keep this old mind young, eh?
