Michigan's State Bird

Some say our state bird should be the Kirkland Warbler, but the robin is our traditional state bird.

I've always thought of the robin as an English bird. Dunno why. Obviously, it lives elsewhere as well!

The English Robin is a little different, I think. They are quite plentiful here in the states.

And I would have thought that the deer and apple were imported too. We only use natives as emblems.

oh no, none of these are imported. well, not sure about the apples, but there are lots of wild apple trees in the woods, so I just don't know. The Robin summer up North, fly south for the winter. They are a sign of spring. The deer: they're ours. We almost extincted them here in Michigan in the early 1900's. Proper management of hunting has increased the herds to much that now they can be nuisances. Beautiful nuisances, though! *grin*
