The great state of Michigan has been having budget problems. An impasse between the legislature and the governor has resulted in the state shutting down Monday. Eek!
I am so under a rock here Shirl. My sister called last night to tell me about this.
Like we need more people off work as it is. I am not sure what is going on with Lansing but this is ridiculous. Somebody is obviously not doing their job.
Anyone who has been following politics and economics has known about the sorry state of the Michigan legislature for a long time. Actually, the sad state of the entire "rust belt" (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois) was obvious years ago, and was one of the reasons I chose to relocate to Texas six years ago, one of the economically "healthy" states.
Some states are horribly sick and dying, others are vibrant and healthy. It's not hard to distinguish which is which.
The question is: does one choose to linger in a moldy tomb, or does one chose to live among the healthy and active?
no, it didn't Julie. It's a political stalement: on the one side raise taxes by 33%, on the other, cut services. No one has been able to come up with a compromise.
I guess some of us are just too stubborn to leave, Roscoe . . . plus we can't stand the heat of the southlands.
Well, Roscoe, the state of Michigan doesn't get much coverage in Australia so, to me, it's out of the blue. Shirl - I've always been of the view that to get the services you need to pay the taxes.

*kicks soap box aside, I am not getting started*
don't get off your soapbox on my account, Diane. 35,000 people out of work: a bunch of them here in Lansing. We're screwed.
Why has this happened? I can't believe it's just come out of the blue.
This didn't come "out of the blue."
