In the Back Yard

I came home yesterday, came around the corner of the garage to throw some stuff in the trash . . . and there were two deer in the backyard. They scampered away as soon as they saw me, but I'm thinking my apple tree might be a big draw.

New photographic hunt!

Wow, if you can get close you'll get some great shots. Waiting.....

they're so shy, though. I'm hoping mebbe before hunting season starts . . . which will be in six weeks for bow season. Yikes!

Maybe you could set up a refuge for them - no hunters allowed!

unfortunately, mother has already leased the hunting rights (goes back about ten years ago). I'm kinda thinking folks won't shoot at the house, though, so mebbe I can get them into the barn or something. We'll see. (Or mebbe I'll get shot. That's why I always wear my orange hat in hunting season!)

I'd be changing the lease!

I thought I heard a rule you can no shot with in so many feet of the homestead. ?

well, i would change it also, julie, but it's not good to mess with the locals!

I'm sure you're correct, Diane. And Mom understood the hunting was for back in the woods. (It's one of those oral, good-old-boy agreements.) However, I've found shell casings out in the barnyard, so I dunno.

That's scary - I'd be putting signs up. "Humans live here - no shooting!"

that's not a bad idea, Julie. I'll get to work on that!
